  • Language Learning:

The book was pretty simple in terms of comprehension, there is a lot of dialogue so it reads really fast. In terms of vocabulary, I picked up many expressions. This is the kind of thing I was missing so I'm very happy with it and I hope I'll come across them again in other stories. For that alone I'm glad I gave the book a chance.

  • The story:

I won't know how to describe this story. I was expecting a detective story but it's not really that, I couldn't assign it a specific genre. I found it quite difficult to follow despite its length. Everything goes very fast, we jump from one scene to another without really any warning. I never understood the reactions of the characters (it didn't make sense to me at all, but maybe it's my foreign brain doing that). This is a book that was written in 1997 by a man and it really shows in the male/female interactions. I was surprised by the hint of the supernatural that sometimes appears without warning. I still found interesting everything that was around the economic situation of a small village in the country that is dying out over the years.

I would recommend it for those who want to read a short story with some nice vocabulary to take in. Those who expect an exceptional story, go your way.
