This takes the zombie virus trope and treats it seriously. It mixes horror and family drama as Nok-hyun tries to look after his zombie mum without getting bitten while keeping her a secret from the authorites.
The author explores the idea of broken families, life priorities and the impact of illness in a family. For a young adult novel the characters and their choices were greyer than I expected. (Until the end, then the author pulls everything together in a way that teenagers would find comforting I think, but it didn't really work for me.)
Language-wise it had generally quite short sentences as opposed to very dense prose, and a lot of dialogue. There was some genre-specific vocabulary that a learner would have to look up but overall the vocab was focused mostly on househouse/family activities and memories so is likely to be mostly familiar to learners.
