Good intro to narrative language
The book is fully written in hiragana with spaces between the words.
You can read it for free by watching a read aloud on YouTube: https://youtu.be/7_ivsffWfvI?si=tdnAS-fsgIlDMZey&start=23
This is a pretty well known book, so if you're familiar with the English version, that will help you understand what's going on. This is about a rainbow fish (虹魚 にじうお) who has very shiny scales and what he decides to do when one of the other fish ask him for one of his prized scales. The story is engaging.
In addition to lots of vocab related to fish and the ocean, this book is written very much with a writing style similar to a novel, and so if you're not used to that writing style it may be a bit difficult, and the pictures only help a little bit to understand what the text is saying.
There are other picture books about the rainbow fish by the same author that you can read to reinforce the writing style and vocabulary.
There is a simplified version of this book for young children that is much shorter and easier: https://learnnatively.com/book/18669ab903/
