The 2 protagonists are high school students, and while the other major characters are not, you can expect that the tone of the story isn't the same as a book where the detective is a respected adult in complete control of the situation. Both characters have moments that show how young they are, which can be contrasting with the moments where the detective is explaining some really smart idea. I can see some people could find fault with it, but I find it fits since how smart you are doesn't mean you have the emotional intelligence to match it.
You can still expect all the elements of a proper mystery though. The other difference to books like Christie's is that this is a much bigger book. I feel like it's a bit of a mix between a story + mystery. With this style, it could mean this as a series will have main characters that learn and grow. Probably because of the size, plenty of the logic happens before the last reveal.
There was a couple of smaller logics that I didn't like, as in it was too farfetched, but compared to the amount of logics that went right it was pretty good overall. From what I checked this book has mixed reviews, and book 2 seems better received.
