Certified granddaddy of japanese space opera science fiction. You can especially see the roots of stuff like 自動戦士ガンダム. It was really hard to grade this difficulty-wise. My copy (which appears to be just totally different than the ebook version on bookwalker?) has furigana which helped a lot, and if you are good at kinda fuzzing out sci fi jargon, then this might not be a terribly terribly hard read? (Except for the one extremely heavy 関西弁 user and the 片言 robot)

There's a lot of war terminology and very very formal register military command speech (lots of ship types and formation and strategy type language), some political machinations (総統閣下 talking menacingly about... wine?), and a bunch of actual science words related to space and planets and gravity fields and all that.

It was a challenge for me, even trying to kinda recognize and avoid looking up all of the military words to make it more tolerable. Enjoyed it though, will definitely finish the other 2 volumes still.

My memory on the difficulty of 風の谷のナウシカ is pretty hazy, but it feels comparable to that, I think, maybe. I kinda ran out of things that weren't aozora shorts to grade it against around this level, which I don't like comparing manga to.

However, it's challenging on enough different fronts simultaneously that I think It probably warrants at least a L33/34. If you read a lot of this stuff already, probably relatively breezy compared to other space war politics stuff. On the flip side, if you're looking for a place to get a foothold into that kind of writing, this might be a great spot to start!
